Anti-governmental protests continue in Israel

Israelis protested against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration on Saturday in response to proposed court reforms.

For the sixteenth week in a straight, protests were held against the right-wing coalition government’s proposed judicial laws in towns such Tel Aviv, West Jerusalem, and Haifa.

Roads were closed by police in a number of locations, particularly Tel Aviv.

Hundreds of Israeli reservist soldiers, including military pilots, have recently abstained from joining training or reporting for service in opposition to proposed judicial reforms.

The opposition sees the measures as an effort to weaken the judicial authority in favor of the administration, despite the government’s claims that they would improve democracy and restore the balance between the legislative, executive, and judicial powers.
