Azerbaijnan MFA issued statement on the shooting down of a Russian Mi-24

APA – According to information received in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, on November 9 this year at 18:30 a.m. a military helicopter Mi-24 of the Russian Federation was shot down on the Nakhchivan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijan state border, APA reports.

The helicopter flied near Armenian-Azerbaijani border as active military fighting continues in Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone: “The flight took place in the dark time of the day, at low altitude, outside the radar observation of the air defense system. Earlier, no helicopters of the Russian Air Force were observed in the area. Taking into account the above-mentioned factors and the tense situation in the region, as well as the high level of combat readiness in connection with the possible provocations of the Armenian side, it was decided to open fire by the military unit on duty. The Azerbaijani side apologizes to Russia for this tragic incident, which was accidental and not directed against Russia. The Azerbaijani side extends its condolences to the families of the dead crew members and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. The Azerbaijani side is ready to pay the appropriate compensation.”
