Iranian foreign minister hold meetings with senior Iraqi authorities

Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian held meetings with senior Iraqi authorities on the sidelines of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership.

The top Iranian diplomat, who joined the heads of regional states for the Baghdad summit on Saturday, held talks about Tehran-Baghdad relations and the regional developments in separate meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, President Barham Salih, and Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.

In the meeting with the Iraqi premier, Amirabdollahian said his participation in the summit signifies the Islamic Republic’s determination to support Iraq.

For his part, al-Kadhimi highlighted the strategic relations between the two countries, praised Iran’s constructive and sustained role in backing Iraq, and thanked the Iranian high-ranking delegation for attending the summit in Baghdad.

In another meeting, Amirabdollahian and Iraqi President Salih talked about the regional developments, economic and trade cooperation between the two neighbors, and the necessity for the promotion of mutual cooperation.

The Iranian foreign minister also met with the Iraqi parliament speaker, during which he stressed the importance of parliamentary ties between the two countries.

Pointing to the arrangements for holding the parliamentary elections in Iraq in the coming weeks, Amirabdollahian described the snap elections as a sign of respect for the votes and demands of the Iraqi people.
