The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the deadly attack near Kabul airport on Thursday evening, according to the specialized site Site Intelligence. Two explosions sounded earlier this Thursday near the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, a double attack that left at least 72 dead and more than 143 injured.
According to the Pentagon, 12 US servicemen were killed and 15 injured, mostly Marines. An Afghan official quoted by the AP agency put forward a provisional toll of 60 civilians killed and 143 wounded. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby spoke of a “complex” attack but assured that the education mission would continue until August 31.
