Iran Warns Israel Against Broader Regional Involvement

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has cautioned Israel against further escalating tensions across the region, according to the state-linked ISNA news agency.

During a phone conversation with his Polish counterpart, Araghchi raised concerns that Israel could target Iranian oil facilities and urged heightened awareness from all parties involved, ISNA reported.

Israeli strikes have already hit parts of Iran’s energy infrastructure, including South Pars, the world’s largest natural gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar, according to Iranian media.

A Gulf nation official described the strike on South Pars as “reckless,” warning that it poses a risk to global energy supplies. “The field is critical not only to Qatar but also to the energy security of the U.S., Europe, and other global partners,” the official said.

Iran has previously signaled it could retaliate against regional energy hubs if its own gas infrastructure comes under attack.

Firas Maksad, director of the Middle East and North Africa practice at Eurasia Group, told CNN that any Iranian moves against energy infrastructure in the Gulf region would represent a serious escalation. “That kind of action could pull the United States directly into the conflict,” he warned.
