The declaration adopted by results of the Eastern Partnership summit reads that the European Union remains committed in its support to the territorial integrity within their internationally recognized borders, independence, and sovereignty of all Eastern partners, with respect for and adherence to the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, the 1975 Helsinki Final Act and the 1990 Charter of Paris.
Report informs that the document voices support for good neighborly relations, confidence-building measures, regional cooperation, strengthening transport connections in the Eastern Partnership region.
Moreover, the text of the declaration notes the importance of supporting the population affected by the conflicts in the Eastern Partnership area. Furthermore, it welcomes the progress achieved at the negotiations between Azerbaijan and European Union on the new bilateral comprehensive agreement.
The document also commends the completion of the Southern Gas Corridor project.
The declaration contains a paragraph on the internal political situation in Belarus, which Azerbaijan did not join, proving the respect for the sovereignty of other countries and non-interference in their internal affairs.
The leaders of the European Union and the Eastern Partnership countries highly appreciated the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels as an extremely positive step after 30 years of conflict. The Eastern Partnership project was launched in 2009 to strengthen political and economic ties between the EU, its member states, and six countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, and Ukraine.
