President Rouhani highlights development in Tehran-Moscow ties in 8 years

IRNA – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said here on Thursday that relations between Tehran and Moscow have grown in different fields during the past eight years.

President Rouhani made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of four national projects related to the Ministry of Energy in the south and west of the country.

At his remarks, the president appreciated the Russian government for its cooperation in eight years.

As the president noted, Iran and Russia have had important cooperation in the issues of Syria, Azerbaijan, Caucasus, and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

“Russia is a very important neighbor for Iran; and our cooperation is of benefit to both nations, the region, and the world.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said the US has no way but to lift anti-Iran sanctions.

During eight years in office, the current Iranian government has made efforts to prove to the world that economic war and coronavirus cannot prevent Iran from developing, he added.

Iran has always stressed the need to have constructive interaction with the world, the president noted.

Sanctions will be defeated, he saidو adding that the move to remove the sanctions is at the final steps.

Rouhani took office for the first time in August 2013, and he is to give power to the next president to be elected after the June 18 election.

Rouhani inaugurated four national projects through a video conference this morning. About 42,000 billion tomans have been invested in the projects in Hormuzgan in the south and Ilam and Kermanshah Provinces in the west of the country.

Reportedly, one of the projects is a 1,400-megawatt power plant in Sirik, in the southern Iranian province of Hormuzgan, whose construction has become operational through an export loan granted by Russia.

About relations with Russia, Rouhani said very close ties exist among the two countries.

He went on to say that the two have had good ties since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

And those ties witnessed development in the past eight years, he underlined.

Every week, the president opens several important projects on petrochemicals, oil, industry, tourism, sports, infrastructure, development, and health to follow goals behind “Surge in Production” which is the name of the past Iranian year (March 20, 2020- March 20, 2021) declared by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
