Vestnik Kavkaza – Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory telegram to Belarus President Aleksander Lukashenko on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, according to the Kremlin press service.
“A quarter of a century ago, the Treaty on the Establishment of the Community of Russia and Belarus was signed, which became the first significant step on the path towards closer cooperation between our countries. Since then, much has been done to strengthen Russia-Belarus ties. The mechanisms of the Union State allow a high level of bilateral interaction in politics, trade, economy, humanitarian field and many other spheres. Moscow and Minsk are coordinating efforts in the international arena, making a significant contribution to stability and security in the Eurasian space,” the message reads.
In addition, the Russian leader expressed confidence that Russia and Belarus will keep working together to promote constructive relations.
“Twenty-five years ago an agreement was signed to establish the Community of Belarus and Russia, which became the starting point for bilateral integration processes. During this time, our countries have achieved a lot: they have established a common customs, migration, humanitarian, social, cultural and educational space, which has made a considerable contribution to improving the quality of life of Belarusians and Russians,” the message of congratulations reads.
According to Lukashenko, cooperation in the Union State based on the principles of sovereign equality will continue to serve the interests of citizens of Belarus and Russia.
Among joint achievements the Belarusian leader noted a launch of space crafts, development of supercomputers, implementation of numerous high technology projects in industry and agriculture. According to him, a launch of the first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was the latest major achievement of this cooperation.
The Belarusian leader believes that it is obvious that Russians and Belarusians are sincerely interested in mutually beneficial cooperation and stronger integration in the Union State based on the principles of equality and independence of the two states.
“I am convinced that together we will overcome all difficulties, and prove that we made the right decision 25 years ago when we opted for consolidation and joint development of our countries within the framework of the Union State,” Lukashenko said.
