Russia sees a surge in terrorism-related crimes

Vestnik Kavkaza – The number of terrorism-related and extremism-related crimes in Russia increased over the past year by almost 30% and more than 40% respectively, according to the report of  Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In January-December 2020, 2,342 terrorism-related crimes were committed, which is 29.7% more than in the same period in 2019, and 833 extremism-related crimes – an increase of 42.4% compared to the previous period.

Of the total number of registered terrorism-related, 623 (+ 67.9%) were committed in 2020, including 71 crimes (+ 18.3%) were suppressed at the stage of preparation and attempted murder, outside Russia – 226 crimes (+218.3%).

In general, in January-December last year, 2,044.2 thousand crimes were registered, which is 1% more than in the same period in 2019. The number of registered crimes increased in 50 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, a decrease in their number occurred in 35 constituent entities.
