Russian, Turkish and Syrian deputy foreign ministers plan to meet in Moscow next week to discuss arranging talks among the countries’ foreign ministers, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a news conference on Wednesday, following talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
“The first meeting was held in a trilateral format (between representatives of the defense ministries). Iran’s foreign minister said they would like to participate in these meetings. We, Turkey, said that there is nothing wrong with this,” he said.
“We also told the Russians that there are no problems with Iran’s participation. Work on the meeting of foreign ministers is ongoing. It will be held in a four-way format. Russia proposed to hold a technical meeting as part of this work. To this end, our deputy minister will take part in a meeting in Moscow next week,” the diplomat added.
In late December, 2022, the defense ministers of Russia, Syria and Turkey held consultations in Moscow as part of the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus.
