Heavy clashes between Turkish-backed militants resulted in the deaths and injuries of a number of civilians in the vicinity of Aleppo province of Syria, according to SANA.
Violent clashes erupted on Monday night between Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), and al-Hamza Division following the involvement of the latter in the killing of a media activist in the city of al-Bab, east of Aleppo.
On October 9, Muhammad Abdullatif, a media activist known by the nickname Abu Ghannoum, and his wife were shot to death in the heart of al-Bab, a town in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.
Syria’s North Press news agency, citing sources reported that the individuals were militants of the Hamza faction, which is supported by Turkey.
The source indicated that machine guns and mortars were used in storming of the headquarters of al-Hamza Division in the city which was followed by hours of clashes.
Since 2017, the city of al-Bab has been under the control of the Turkish-backed opposition factions, which fight against each other from time to time.
Earlier, activists and people in the city declared civil disobedience and a citywide strike, calling on the Syrian authorities to take responsibility and stop the ongoing security chaos.
Prior assassinations and bombings in the city resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of civilians and soldiers.
