Egypt aid ship to arrive in Beirut this week

Middle East Monitor – An Egyptian warship laden with food will arrive in the Lebanese capital of Beirut this week, the official National News Agency (NNA) reported yesterday.

The Egyptian ambassador to Lebanon told reporters that the aid ship contains “food to meet the Lebanese army’s urgent needs and support them in the face of the current circumstances that our neighbours are witnessing.”

He added that the ship has “300 tonnes of food aid” onboard, adding that its arrival was being coordinated with the “leadership of the Lebanese army.”

“The Egyptian support for Lebanon and the army will continue until Lebanon transcends the current crisis,” the ambassador pointed out, stressing on his country’s “keenness to maintain stability in Lebanon.”

Lebanon is in the throes of a deep economic meltdown that is threatening its stability. The World Bank has called it one of the deepest depressions of modern history.
