The INTERPOL Support Programme for the African Union in relation to AFRIPOL is launched

The three-year “INTERPOL Support Programme for the African Union in Relation to AFRIPOL” was launched today 28 April 2020. The online ceremony was presided over by the Executive Director of AFRIPOL, Dr. Tarek A. Sharif, and INTERPOL’s Global Outreach and Regional Support Director, Ms. Roraima Andriani.

The programme, which is funded by the Federal Republic of Germany, is developed as part of the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between INTERPOL and the African Union in relation to AFRIPOL, which signed by the organizations in January 2019.

The programme will enable the two institutions to work together to strengthen the capacities of the police agencies of the African Union Member States in fighting criminal activities in the African Continent. It will also contribute to enhance the technical and analytic capabilities of AFRIPOL at institutional and operational levels.

As immediate next steps for the implementation of the programme, the two institutions agreed to develop a concrete implementation plan that addresses the key areas of the continent, in line with relevant African Union agenda, including the 2020 Theme of the Year: Silencing the Guns, and Agenda 2063, among others.
