The Turkish Ministry of Defense’s head, Hulusi Akar, confirmed that it was a mine that was found in the Bosphorus. He made the corresponding statement on the TRT TV channel.
“According to the study results, it was an old-type mine, it was deactivated by our underwater defense team. Negotiations with the authorities of Russia and Ukraine on this issue are ongoing”, TASS quotes the minister.
Akar also said that after the discovery of the object, all necessary measures were taken, including in coordination with the Coast Guard and the Navy, to ensure the safety of navigation. He noted, at the moment, traffic through the Bosporus is safe.
