President of the BRICS International Forum Purnima Anand said on Thursday that Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia want to join BRICS, adding that a decision on the admission of some of the countries may happen during the organization’s next summit in 2023, APA reports citing CNTV.
Speaking to the Russian media Izvestiya, Anand noted that the organization consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, discussed possible new member states during its latest summit that took part on June 23 and 24 in Beijing. ”All these countries have shown their interest in joining and are preparing to apply for membership. I think this is a good step, because expansion is always perceived positively, it will clearly strengthen the influence of BRICS around the world,” she explained, noting that she hopes it would happen ”very quickly” as ”all representatives of the core of the association are interested in expanding”. ”So it will be very soon,” Anand concluded.
Previously, Iran and Argentina also submitted their applications to join the organization as stated by Russia.
