United States and South Korea agree to enhance nuclear cooperation

President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol pledged increased nuclear cooperation between the United States and South Korea in response to North Korean threats.

Senior U.S. officials told reporters prior to Yoon’s arrival that the two leaders will reveal steps to strengthen deterrence against North Korea, including the first deployment of a U.S. nuclear missile submarine to the nation in decades.

Senior U.S. administration officials informed reporters during a conference call that Washington would send South Korea imposing military hardware, including a ballistic missile submarine, as a show of force. According to them, this will be a submarine’s first visit since the 1980s.

The authorities emphasized that South Korea would continue to be out of control and that no American nuclear weapons would be brought back to the peninsula.
