US appoints Ethan Goldrich as new Syria policy chief

by Middle East Monitor

The United States has appointed Ethan Goldrich as the deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs, with responsibility for the Levant and Syria engagement.

The State Department said Goldrich will also oversee the execution of the State Department’s response to Lebanon’s political crisis and economic collapse, as well as reinvigorate engagement with ally Jordan, which faced an alleged coup attempt earlier this year.

Goldrich has previously served as chargé d’affaires in Bahrain before moving to the United Arab Emirates in the summer of 2021.

He also served as the foreign policy adviser to the Commander in Chief of the General Command of Joint Special Operations from August 2018 to June 2021.

He speaks Russian, Hebrew and Arabic and served in Jerusalem, Libya, Kuwait, Belarus and in the Soviet Union.
