Henry Kissinger: Conflict in Ukraine must end with negotiations

The conflict in Ukraine must end with negotiations, and later the situation will change radically. This forecast was shared by former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. He expressed his opinion on a podcast by CNN correspondent David Axelrod.

“The conflict must end with negotiations. Would you assume that Russia will continue as a state after, and Ukraine would be there now as a state and it will be a state, so the situation would change quite radically because Ukraine, has been armed by NATO— has been so closely connected with NATO that at the end of the war, some relationship with NATO will continue” Kissinger said.

He said that the proposal to Ukraine to join NATO was a mistake, but added that “this is already in the past.” The former US Secretary of State warned against dragging out the conflict and suggested there was a risk of it escalating into something “more like World War I” with increasing escalation.

“So I hope that shortly, if NATO countries will agree among themselves about what the outcome should be and begin to see what negotiated outcome is possible,” Kissinger said.

He believes that it’s impossible to have a relationship with Russia in which Russia considers itself part of Europe., and does not become an “output of China at the edge of Europe”.
