The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that could sanction foreign groups supporting rival factions and harming the relative stability in Libya.

The Libya Stabilisation Act was introduced by Democrat Ted Deutch and Republican Joe Wilson. It passed by 386 votes to 35.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh praised the move. “Congress confirmed by passing the Libya Stabilisation Act that it is supporting stability in Libya, saying the bill allows US authorities to sanction spoilers of Libya’s political process and stability,” he wrote on Twitter yesterday.
