The United States Department of the Treasury on Wednesday imposed new sanctions against individuals and entities related to the war in Syria.
The Treasury Department said it was blocking any assets and banning any US transactions with an opposition group Ahrar al-Sharqiya, which was among the groups that took part in the FSA and participated in Operation Euphrates Shield.
The United States also took action against men accused of funding extremists in Syria, Assad regime’s intelligence apparatus, as well as five prison officials from President Bashar al-Assad’s regime over tortures.
As a result, all property, and interests in property of the designated persons that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons are blocked and must be reported to OFAC. In addition, any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 percent or more by one or more blocked persons are also blocked.
