Three US service members stationed in Syria were injured in two separate rocket attacks Wednesday.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attacks targeted housing facilities for American troops in the region.
CENTCOM said the injuries to all three service members were “minor.”
The US responded to the attacks with a series of airstrikes from Apache helicopters that destroyed three vehicles and the equipment used to launch some of the rockets. CENTCOM said the American airstrikes killed several of the suspected Iran-backed militants believed to be responsible for the rocket attacks.
“We are closely monitoring the situation,” said CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla in a statement. “We have a total spectrum of capability to mitigate threats across the region, and we have every confidence in our ability to protect our troops and Coalition partners from attacks.”
