30 killed as Sudan troops clear protest camp in assault

At least 30 people are dead following an attack by the Sudanese security forces on a protest camp in the capital on Monday.
Reports suggest that the security forces opened fire, torched tents and killed people to clear away the months-old sit-in. Civilians were demanding the military to hand over power to a group of civilian political parties.
Videos posted on social media present civilians running through smoke-filled streets lined with sit-in tents, their heads down, as the sound of gunfire filled the air.
Azza al-Kamel, a doctor at the Royal Care hospital near the sit-in area outside the military headquarters in the capital, Khartoum said:
Forces for Declaration of Freedom and Change, which represents the protesters in negotiations with the military suggests that at least 200 people were wounded. The security forces are reported to have had seized control of almost the entire camp by midday.
