“Operation Prosperity Guardian is bringing together multiple countries to include the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain, to jointly address security challenges in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, with the goal of ensuring freedom of navigation for all countries and bolstering regional security and prosperity,” the Pentagon stated.
Houthi attacks have been carried out against cargo ships transiting the gulf that either have ties to Israeli firms or are headed toward the Israeli state. As a result, many vessels have since opted to undertake different routes.
The Houthis have indicated attacks would cease once Israel called off its bombing campaign against the Gaza Strip, where tens of thousands have been killed since the outbreak of renewed hostilities in early October.
