Strange Postmodern Times

If you spend all your life watching soap operas like Dallas, Sex and The City and same sort of comedy series you cannot mature. You stay as a child in an adult body like Trump or Kim Jung-Un etc.

Global climate change is going on dramatically. Eastern Mediterranean has turned into a global gun store. Syrian conflict continues. The famine problem in Africa has reached shameful levels for humanity.  Vital resources such as water, fresh air, forests and so on are rapidly depleting. Big fires are destroying forests and nobody is doing anything. Despite all these negative developments, politicians are constantly pushing to take urgent measures. How can we explain this insensitivity of leaders? Can’t they understand or don’t want to? However contemporary politicians seem to fight with each other instead of solving the problems. Ordinary people are struggling with environmental and political issues all around the world. But they are alone. We can say that humanity’s new existential problem belongs to the postmodern age.

Main problem of our day is that leaders are not mature. Trump must be spending most of his time in the solarium. Moreover,  he spends efforts to respond to his opponents. There is one more thing, he likes to send messages to his interlocutor from Twitter. Unfortunately, these messages often lead to increased tension.

Other important leader is Putin. He likes all kind of sports. You can see him on safari with a big hunting rifle. He also likes to show his perfect body. It would not be wrong to think that he spent most of his time doing sports to keep his body vigorous.

Another popular politic actor is North Korean leader Kim Jung-Un. He is really an interesting person.  He had come up with throwing his sister’s husband to crocodiles. We can say that he likes to play with missiles. Additionally he has a huge sense of self-confidence. This combination does not seem reassuring. No doubt Angela Merkel was a very consistent and restrained leader. But suddenly she began to tremble. Nobody knows what’s wrong with her. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leader of Turkey was always very angry. I think everyone remembers how he scolded the Israeli leader at the Davos meeting for live broadcasting. The crisis’s name is “One minute”. But he said once “The world is bigger than 5” that was really stunning and true.

Our previous political world was also not made up of smart and peaceful leaders. Let’s remember: One of them was Berlusconi, an Italian media tycoon who has served  as Prime Minister of Italy four times. He was eventually arrested and convicted of some major crimes. We cannot consider him as a respectful man for laws. The other one was Sarkozy. He had an obsession with his short stature. The Napoleonic complex in Nicolas Sarkozy had been placed for a long time in his country’s and other countries magazine news. But it was his official visit to England with his wife, Carla Bruni, that made him the headline for almost the whole world newspapers with his high heels. After commenting on these heels in British newspapers, he was determined to increase the sales of men’s shoes with high heels.

Thus, I think we have to face the reality that, this is not the time of discreet, peaceful and dedicated serious politicians. Our days’ or we can say that the postmodern period’s voters do not like this kind of leaders. Because they do not want the sorrows, struggles and problems of life at all. They regard life as merely a process of fun and pleasure. Therefore, the most well-known discourse of the postmodern era is “carpe diem”.

If you spend all your life watching soap operas like Dallas, Sex and The City and same sort of comedy series you cannot mature. Thus you stay as a child in an adult body like Trump or Kim Jung-Un etc.
