United States brokered 3-days ceasefire between conflicting parties in Sudan

According to a statement made by Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, the fighting generals in Sudan have agreed to uphold a three-day truce in order to stop the rising violence in the East African country.

The deal was reached, according to Blinken, after “intense negotiations” between the paramilitary General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), also known as Hemedti, and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under the command of Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan.

According to a statement from Blinken, “during this time, the United States urges the SAF and RSF to immediately and fully uphold the ceasefire.”

The United States will work in concert with regional and international allies as well as Sudanese civic stakeholders to support the establishment of a committee to supervise the negotiation, conclusion, and implementation of a permanent cease-fire in order to ensure a lasting end to the conflict.
