Director of Communications Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun attended the opening session of the “Internet Media and Journalism” Online Workshop.
Prof. Dr. Altun spoke about fake news on the internet and the rapid spread of these news.
Drawing attention to two baseless news stories titled “Medical education in Turkey for Qataris without examination” and “Guns found out in girls’ dormitory”, Altun said that the order based on fake news threatens social peace.
Emphasizing that this situation should “be seen as a national security problem”, Prof. Dr. Altun said:
“News written without any research or confirmation with the aim of creating a sensation and getting clicks are poisoning the digital ecosystem and society.”
