The foreign ministers of Iran and Kuwait weighed plans to convene the two countries’ joint committees on the consular and border affairs in the near future.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Kuwaiti counterpart Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammed Al-Sabah held a meeting on the sidelines of an emergency session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad on Sunday.

Stressing the need to broaden relations between Iran and Kuwait, remove the consular obstacles, and facilitate travels between the two countries, Amirabdollahian expressed Tehran’s readiness to hold the meetings of the Joint Commission as well as the consular and border committees with Kuwait.

The relations between Iran and Kuwait are based upon fraternity and good neighborliness, the top Iranian diplomat added.

For his part, Al-Sabah conveyed the Kuwaiti emir’s greetings to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

He said the joint committees on the consular and border affairs will be held soon.

The two foreign ministers also talked about the latest regional developments, and the Kuwaiti diplomat invited his Iranian counterpart to pay a visit to the Arab country.

The foreign ministers of the OIC members have gathered in Pakistan for an emergency meeting focusing on the crisis in Afghanistan.
