Eli Cohen, the foreign minister of Israel, arrived to Turkmenistan on Wednesday night to open an embassy there, not far from the border with Iran.
Israel’s embassy in Ashgabat will be situated about 15 miles (25 km) from Iran’s border, making it the nation’s closest diplomatic outpost there.
Iran and Turkmenistan share a 1,148 km long border.
