JCPOA: Nuclear talks perspective

by IRNA

Iran has made it clear that the framework set by Majlis legislation called ‘Strategic Action Plan to Lift Sanctions and Protect Iranian Nation’s Interests’ is the main component in laying down the agenda for new round of negotiations.

The nuclear talks between Iran and Western sides which were held in six rounds starting from March have come under focus again after a suspension during the power transition period in Iran.

The main question in Western public opinion and media has been around what approach the new administration in Iran would adopt regarding nuclear talks.

The statements made by Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stated in his last meeting with former President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet giving a conclusion on the six rounds of talks held in Vienna, Austria show that continuation of talks based on the previous format is out of the picture.

Given the announced approach by President Ebrahim Raisi in his inauguration speech last week putting emphasis on pursuing the issue through diplomatic efforts, the main option for Iran would naturally be to resume talks with a new agenda.

For Iran, the realization of the framework set by Majlis legislation called ‘Strategic Action Plan to Lift Sanctions and Protect Iranian Nation’s Interests’ is the main component in laying down the agenda for a new edition of negotiations.

Indeed, the nuclear issue and new strategies in Vienna talks would be determined within definite policies announced by Iran under the supervision of the Supreme National Security Council – an Iranian governmental body that specifies the country’s strategies on foreign policy.
