Army To Investigate Election Misconduct By Its Personnel

The Nigerian army says it has set up a committee to investigate alleged cases of malpractice by its personnel during the presidential and national assembly elections.

The chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai gave the indication during a meeting with field commanders and principal staff officers in Abuja.

Buratai said the panel was a result of complaints from some states against some of its personnel during the polls, and the need to protect the integrity of the service.

He directed all field commanders to ensure that they assist the police in maintaining law and order, in Saturday’s governorship and state elections.

He condoled with the families of the officer and soldiers who lost their lives in an attack on their unit in rivers state by unknown gunmen, promising that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
