Turkey inaugurates Consulate General in Gagauzia, Moldova

Turkey opened a new consulate general in the capital province of Moldova’s Gagauzia autonomous region, Comrat, on Thursday. The diplomatic mission opening ceremony was attended by the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu, who arrived in the autonomy on an official visit.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey supports Moldova’s stability and economic development and the two countries’ ties have been improving daily.

During the event, the governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah emphasized that the Consulate General of Turkey is the first diplomatic representation of its kind in the autonomy.

The Bashkan said that the need to open it in Comrat is long overdue, since social, cultural and economic ties between the fraternal Gagauz and Turkish peoples have reached the highest level.

“Gagauzia is ready to continue to be a bridge of friendship between Turkey and the Republic of Moldova. We feel Turkey’s support in matters related to the development of infrastructure, education and healthcare. We are waiting for Turkish investors in our region, ”she summed up.

Moldovan Foreign Minister Tsulya also stated the importance of hosting Çavuşoğlu on such an important day.

“This visit proved the level and quality of our countries’ strategic partnership,” he said.

“The Consulate General, which we are opening today, will further promote the culture and language of the Gagauz people, develop the economy of Gagauzia and the entire southern region of the Republic of Moldova,” Oleg Tsulya said.

The Consulate General in Comrat is headed by Hasan Akdogan.
