The US was blaming China for the outbreak of COVID-19 and instigating its allies to exert pressure on China. But a twist is seen with the murder of Chinese origin 37 years old young scientist Liu Bing. “He was involved in research of COVID-19 and was on the verge of making very significant findings toward understanding the cellular mechanisms that underlie SARS-CoV-2 infection and the cellular basis of the following complications,” the university said in a statement. “We will make an effort to complete what he started to pay homage to his scientific excellence.”
Dr. Liu, a native of China, earned his Bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science in Singapore before conducting research in the US, worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University before becoming a research associate at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. According to his online CV, he had collaborated with biologists and clinicians to study human immunity. He was a dedicated researcher and enjoys good relations with his colleagues, with no enmity at all. He was a very talented individual, extremely intelligent and hard-working,” said Ivet Bahar, the head of the computational and system biology department in Pitt’s School of Medicine. Members of the university’s School of Medicine describe their former colleague as an outstanding researcher and mentor, and have pledged to complete Liu’s research “to pay homage to his scientific excellence.” The university issued a statement saying it is “deeply saddened by the tragic death of Bing Liu, a prolific researcher and admired colleague at Pitt. The University extends deepest sympathies to Liu’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Several theories regarding the origin of COVID-19 and its spread are in circulation in the Western media. Someone believes it is human-made and either accidental leakage of a deliberate biological attack, while some others think it is natural but mishandled by China, whereas, China is cooperating openly and transparently.
A well-planned campaign is launched to bash China and fix the responsibility on China for imposing compensation. Whereas China is firm and rebutting all of its allegations based on evidence. Chines nationals are facing discrimination in the Western World. Their businesses are suffering and some of them are losing jobs too. The life for Chinese in the Western World has become tough. The murder of Dr. Liu Bing is a major twist in conspiracy theories and the death of his suspected- killer has opened many queries in the minds of 1.4 billion Chinese.
The initial police report is hard to believe, and a thorough investigation is required to reach any conclusion. It might be a simple murder like many others but his research profile and timings of his murder seem rather fishy.
Gun culture is a routine matter in the US and it has been happening on and off. With the start of the outbreak, people rushed to purchase guns and ammunition in a fear and terror situation of predicting a civil war. Once people have guns and ammunition, they are prone to use it.
At least, his murder has deprived us of a brilliant researcher and scientist. The University has declared to continue his research and we are optimistic of out-come.
It is appealed to concern authorities to investigate the matter impartially and anyone involved brought to justice and ensure the safety of scientists and researchers involved in important projects.
